The Healthier Aging Initiative is pleased to offer our first Embracing Change presentation introducing our new Kaiser Permanente/Ashby Village (KP/AV) Partnership:

Understanding Pain Through the Mind-Body Connection

If you, or someone you know, lives with persistent pain, you can learn to better manage pain and have an improved quality of life.  This presentation will address:

      • Differences between acute and chronic pain
      • Connection between mood and physical pain
      • Discussion of neuroplasticity and how it relates to chronic pain.
      • How psychological/cognitive-behavioral techniques and pain management skills help retrain your brain
      • Review the proven methods that can reduce chronic pain symptoms, enabling individuals to feel better over time

Emilia Moreno, PsyD has worked in different specialty clinics for Kaiser Permanente since 2012. As a bilingual/bicultural psychologist, she enjoys collaborating with patients as they make positive and healthy changes in their lives. Her focus for the last 5 years has been working with the Oakland Kaiser pain management department, as well as providing surgical candidacy clearances for the Fremont bariatrics department. As part of her pre- and post-doctoral training, she completed various rotations at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of California Davis Medical Center (UCDMC) in Sacramento, CA. She also trained at UCDMC’s Spine Center providing pain management treatment.
